2027 FISU World University Games Summer

The 2027 FISU World University Games, set to take place in Chungcheong Megacity, Korea, is gearing up to host 15,000 athletes from 150 countries. Spanning four cities and provinces - Daejeon, Sejong, Chungbuk, and Chungnam - Chungcheong stands at the geographical heart of Korea, symbolizing unity and strength with a history of overcoming challenges.

Chungcheong's strategic development plan has positioned it as a leader in various sectors, including science, technology, administration, high-tech industries, and logistics. With a population of 5.6 million, Chungcheong is united to present the 2027 Summer World University Games, emphasizing solidarity and cooperation between local governments. The event is anticipated to be a cost-effective and efficient spectacle, incorporating cutting-edge IT technologies and well-developed infrastructure across the region.

A collaborative effort defines the Chungcheong 2027 WUG, aiming to be the first sports event hosted with warm hospitality, bringing peace and hope to participants. The event will feature 18 sports across 31 venues, with a legacy plan derived from the success of the Gwangju 2015 FISU World University Games facilities.

After a competitive selection process, FISU has chosen Chungcheong over The Triangle, North Carolina, recognizing Korea's esteemed tradition of university sports. FISU Acting President Leonz Eder congratulates Chungcheong, expressing confidence in the region's ability to provide an ideal setting for the world's best university athletes. The event is expected not only to celebrate sports excellence but also to contribute to the sustainable development of the region.

As preparations unfold, the Bid Committee extends gratitude for strong support, anticipating an exceptional event where the values of sports are shared and celebrated. Chungcheong's successful bid aligns with FISU's sustainable approach to major events, utilizing existing or planned venues for lasting impact.

While Chungcheong secures the hosting rights for 2027, FISU appreciates both candidates, acknowledging their commitment to international university sport. With a rich history dating back to 1959, the FISU World University Games continue to thrive, with Chungcheong joining the ranks of distinguished hosts, alongside Torino and the Rhine-Ruhr region preparing for the 2025 editions.
